Second generation surface launched Exocet missile. Incorporates improvements introduced on the AM39 and SM39 variants. Compared to the original MM38 the new rocket motor provides about twice the range. The new active radar homing seeker has a wider search area. The MM40 was retroactively called the Block 1 missile upon introduction of the Block 2.
Modernization of the MM40 Block 1 with improved guidance section. First variant to introduced a GPS system to complement the inertial guidance system. A new radar altimeter allows for a lower sea skimming flight pattern than before. The digtial mission planning computer allows for improved attack patterns, has better ECCM performance and has a basic re-attack capability
